Description

The 500 Syrian Pounds banknote was issued by the Central Bank of Syria in 1998 (1419 AH). It formed part of the country’s standard circulating currency during the modern era of the Syrian Arab Republic. The note reflects national pride by honoring Syria’s ancient civilization and its important role in Middle Eastern history.

The obverse features a portrait of Queen Zenobia, the famous ruler of the ancient Palmyrene Empire who challenged Roman authority in the 3rd century. At the center appears the historic Roman Theater of Palmyra, one of Syria’s most iconic archaeological landmarks. Arabic inscriptions identify the issuing authority and denomination.

The reverse depicts the Euphrates Dam along with imagery representing irrigation and agricultural production, symbolizing Syria’s economic development and reliance on water resources.
