Description

This copper 1 Cash coin was issued in the Princely State of Travancore between 1901 and 1910 during the reign of Maharaja Moolam Thirunal Rama Varma VI. Small in size at approximately 10.8 mm in diameter and weighing about 0.65 grams, the coin reflects the everyday low-denomination currency used in southern India during the late princely state period.

The obverse features the Sankha (conch shell), an important symbol in Hindu tradition and a historic emblem of the Travancore royal family, placed within an elegant eight-pointed star design.

The reverse carries Malayalam inscriptions reading “Oru Kaashu,” meaning “One Cash,” clearly indicating the denomination used in the regional monetary system of Travancore.

Coins from Travancore are well known for their distinctive local scripts and symbolic designs tied to regional culture and religion. This small but historically rich piece is an attractive addition for collectors of South Indian and princely state coinage.
