Description

Issued during the reign of Maharaja Shivaji Rao Holkar of the Princely State of Indore, this ¼ Anna was struck in VS 1944 (1887–1888 CE). Cast in copper, it weighs approximately 6.03 grams and measures 25 mm in diameter. This example is offered in high-grade condition, exhibiting strong details, an even natural patina, and excellent eye appeal.

The obverse features the characteristic reclining bull facing left, surrounded by a continuous Devanagari legend reading “Shrimant Maharaj Holkar Sarkar Indore.” The bold central motif and well-preserved inscriptions reflect the craftsmanship of Holkar State coinage.

The reverse displays the denomination “¼ Anna” in Devanagari with the Vikram Samvat date below, enclosed within an elegant floral wreath. The decorative border complements the simple yet distinctive design of this historic princely state issue.

A beautiful representative of Holkar State coinage, this high-grade ¼ Anna is an excellent addition for collectors of Indian princely states, native state coinage, and 19th-century Indian numismatics. Its superior preservation and attractive design make it a premium collectible for both experienced numismatists and new collectors alike.
