Description

Issued in Vikram Samvat 1999 (1942 CE) during the reign of Maharaja Jivaji Rao Scindia, this brass ½ Anna belongs to the later coinage of the Gwalior princely state. Struck in a milled round format and weighing approximately 3 grams, the coin reflects the modernization of princely state minting practices during the British Indian era.

The obverse displays a left-facing bust of Jivaji Rao Scindia surrounded by Devanagari legends naming the ruler and his titles, executed in a refined portrait style typical of 20th-century princely issues.

The reverse features the Gwalior state coat of arms along with Devanagari inscriptions denoting the denomination “Aadha Aana” and the Vikram Samvat date below.

Coins of Jivaji Rao Scindia are appreciated for their royal portraiture, heraldic reverse designs, and historical connection to one of the most influential Maratha princely states of India. An attractive addition for collectors of Gwalior, Scindia dynasty, and late princely state coinage.
