Description
This copper ½ Paisa coin was issued by the Princely State of Jaipur between 1943 and 1944 during the reign of Maharaja Man Singh II, while India remained under the British Crown represented by King George VI. Struck in copper and measuring about 16.4 mm in diameter, the coin reflects the transitional period when princely states issued local coinage under British imperial authority.
The obverse displays Persian inscriptions referencing the authority of the British monarch, translating to “With permission of the Emperor of England, George the Sixth,” a typical formula used by princely states to acknowledge imperial sovereignty.
The reverse features the distinctive Jhar (stylized plant or leaf) symbol of Jaipur along with the regnal year marking, a design element commonly seen on Jaipur coinage of this period.
Coins of the Jaipur princely state are widely collected for their unique regional designs and historical context within British India. This piece represents the final phase of princely state coinage before Indian independence in 1947.
