Description
Issued in AH 1167 (1754 CE) during the reign of Mughal Emperor Aziz-ud-din Alamgir II, this copper Dam or Falus was struck under the Hyderabad-Elichpur feudatory administration. Produced in a heavy hammered fabric with an irregular rectangular shape, the coin weighs approximately 17.6 grams and reflects the robust copper currency traditions of the Deccan during the late Mughal period.
The obverse carries bold Persian inscriptions including the name “Alamgir,” engraved in flowing calligraphic style across the compact flan.
The reverse features additional Persian legends including the denomination “Falus,” arranged in a stylized linear format characteristic of regional Mughal copper issues.
Coins from the Hyderabad-Elichpur feudatory are valued for their unusual shapes, strong calligraphic designs, and historical association with the declining Mughal Empire and emerging regional powers. An appealing addition for collectors of Mughal, Deccan, and hammered Indian coinage.
