Description
This copper 1 Dam was issued under Emperor Akbar of the Mughal Empire during AH 966–997 (1556–1605 CE). Struck in copper with an irregular round fabric, the coin represents the standardized monetary reforms introduced during Akbar’s reign. The piece belongs to the Narnol mint series and reflects the robust circulation coinage of the late 16th century Mughal economy.
The obverse displays bold Persian script with denomination and imperial inscriptions executed in the broad calligraphic style typical of Akbar’s copper issues. The large flan and deeply engraved legends give the coin a strong visual presence despite circulation wear.
The reverse carries additional Persian legends identifying the mint and regnal attribution. The compact arrangement of the inscription and hand-struck minting characteristics are consistent with Mughal provincial mint production of the period.
Akbar copper Dams remain highly collectible due to their historical importance, diverse mint varieties, and connection to one of the most celebrated rulers of the Mughal Empire. This Narnol mint example is especially appealing for collectors building specialized Mughal, Islamic, or medieval Indian coin collections.
