Description
This copper 1 Dokdo was issued by the Princely State of Porbandar during the late 18th to 19th century period, bearing the AH 978 date style commonly seen on regional kori currency coinage. Struck in copper on a small round flan, the coin reflects the localized minting traditions of western India and the circulation economy of the Kathiawar region.
The obverse features the Devanagari legend “Shri Rana,” engraved in a bold linear style with clear hand-struck character alignment. The compact arrangement and thick lettering are characteristic of Porbandar Dokdo issues.
The reverse carries the inscription “Shri Jam,” rendered within a divided field design. The artistic calligraphy and simple geometric layout give the coin its distinctive regional appearance and traditional charm.
Porbandar Dokdo coins remain highly collectible among enthusiasts of Indian princely states due to their historical relevance, indigenous scripts, and strong regional identity. Coins featuring both Shri Rana and Shri Jam legends are especially appreciated by collectors specializing in western Indian copper coinage.
