Description

Struck between 1663 and 1724, this 1 Fanam belongs to the Dutch India issues associated with Cochin. Composed of approximately .585 gold and weighing around 0.44 grams, it is a very small, irregularly round coin with a plain edge, reflecting the characteristic format of South Indian Fanams.

The obverse features a degenerated or stylized representation of Goddess Kali, rendered in a compact and highly symbolic form. The design reflects the distinctive iconography found on early South Indian gold Fanams.
