Description

Issued between 1160–1186 CE during the reign of Sultan Khusrau Malik, this 1 Jital was struck at the historic Lahore Mint. Minted in billon (copper-silver alloy) using the hammered technique, it weighs approximately 3.2 grams and measures around 15 mm in diameter, representing the distinctive medieval coinage of the Ghaznavid Dynasty.

The obverse features a stylized bull facing left in a geometric design, with the inscription “Sri Sama” above. This remarkable blend of Indian iconography and Islamic coinage traditions reflects the cultural interactions of the period.

The reverse bears the Kufic inscription naming Sultan Khusrau Malik along with his royal titles in a bold epigraphic arrangement. The compact calligraphic style is characteristic of late Ghaznavid coinage struck at Lahore.

As one of the final coin issues of the Ghaznavid Dynasty, this Lahore Mint Jital is highly desirable among collectors of medieval Indian, Islamic, and Indo-Islamic coinage.
