Description
Struck between 1238 and 1249 AD under the Qarlughid Dynasty, this billon 1 Jital was issued in the name of Saif al-Din al-Hasan Qarlugh, who controlled key frontier regions linking Central Asia and North India. With a diameter near 15 mm, it reflects the compact fabric of medieval hammered coinage.
The obverse carries Arabic inscriptions naming the ruler with his extended titles, arranged in a compact and stylized calligraphic layout.
The reverse depicts a horseman holding a standard, a familiar motif in Indo-Islamic coinage symbolizing authority and continuity of regional design traditions.
Coins of the Qarlughid dynasty are comparatively less encountered and offer strong historical interest. This piece is well suited for collectors focusing on frontier dynasties, early Sultanate influences, and transitional medieval coinage.
