Description
Issued during the reign of Maharaja Sayaji Rao III between VS 1941–1950 (1884–1893 CE), this copper 1 Paisa belongs to the coinage of the Baroda princely state under the Gaekwad dynasty. Struck in a round format with milled detailing and weighing approximately 6.7 grams, the coin reflects the refined minting standards adopted by Baroda during the late 19th century.
The obverse carries Devanagari legends including the title “Sarkar” within a beaded circle, accompanied by symbolic elements such as a short hoof and scimitar, while the outer legend names Shri Sayajirao M. Gaekwad with honorific titles.
The reverse features the denomination “Ek Paisa” and Vikram Samvat date in Devanagari script enclosed within an ornamental wreath design, giving the coin a balanced and elegant appearance.
Coins of Sayaji Rao III are admired for their historical importance, strong regional identity, and well-executed inscriptions. A fine addition for collectors of Baroda state, Gaekwad dynasty, and princely India coinage.
