Description

Struck between 1820 and 1824 AD under the Bengal Presidency, this copper 1 Pice was issued in the name of Shah Alam II during a period when the British East India Company governed large parts of eastern India. Weighing approximately 6.10 grams with a diameter of about 22.65 mm, it represents a standardized copper issue of the era.

The obverse displays Persian legends referring to the emperor, accompanied by a prominent trident (trisul) symbol, a distinctive feature of this type.

The reverse carries the denomination “Ek Pai Sikka” in Persian script, maintaining the traditional Mughal-style calligraphy.

This coin is valued for its historical context, bridging the late Mughal period and early British colonial administration. It appeals to collectors focused on Indo-Islamic coinage, British India transitions, and symbolic design elements.
