Description
Issued during the reign of Shah Alam II between circa 1774–1799 CE, this copper Takka belongs to the regional coinage tradition influenced by the Mughal monetary system. Struck in hammered technique on an irregular round flan, the coin weighs approximately 19 grams and reflects the robust copper currency used in local circulation.
The obverse carries stylized Persian legends engraved in bold calligraphic form, following the traditional design language of late Mughal-era princely state coinage.
The reverse features additional Persian inscriptions and ornamental linear elements arranged within the compact fabric, characteristic of Rajgarh Takka issues of the period.
Takkas of Shah Alam II are appreciated for their historical connection to the declining Mughal Empire and the growing autonomy of regional states. A desirable addition for collectors of Rajput, Mughal-influenced, and hammered Indian coinage.
