Description

This silver 1 Tara was issued under Devaraya I of the Vijayanagara Empire between 1406 and 1422 AD. The Vijayanagara Empire was one of the most influential Hindu kingdoms of South India during the medieval period. Struck on a small irregular round flan, the coin weighs around 0.25 grams and reflects the fine silver fractional currency used in regional trade.

The obverse displays an elephant walking to the right within a circular border, a common and symbolic motif in Vijayanagara coinage representing strength and royal authority.

The reverse features the name of King Devaraya in Devanagari script, identifying the ruler under whose authority the coin was issued.

Coins of Devaraya I are valued for their historical connection to the Vijayanagara Empire and their distinctive small silver format, making them appealing to collectors of medieval South Indian coinage.
