Description
This 10 Pesos banknote was issued by the Japanese Government during the occupation of the Philippines in World War II (1942–1945). Often referred to as “Japanese Invasion Money,” these emergency notes were introduced after Japanese forces took control of the country and replaced existing Philippine currency to support the wartime economy.
The obverse of the banknote features the Rizal Monument in Manila, a tribute to the Philippine national hero José Rizal. The design also includes the inscriptions “THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT” and “TEN PESOS,” along with Japanese characters referencing the Imperial Government. The layout combines Latin and Japanese scripts, reflecting the authority of the occupying administration.
The reverse displays a decorative green ornamental frame with the denomination “10 PESOS” at the center. The simple yet elegant design highlights the denomination clearly while maintaining the distinctive wartime aesthetic. Today, this note remains a popular collectible due to its strong historical connection to World War II and the Japanese occupation period.
