Description

Struck between 1833 and 1843 during the reign of Krishnaraja Wodeyar III, this 20 Cash coin belongs to the coinage of the Mysore Princely State. Made of copper and weighing approximately 8.88 grams, it has an irregular round flan and was produced using a hammered technique.

The obverse features “Shri Chamundi” in Kannada at the top, with the sun and moon between the inscription. An advancing Sardula lion appears in the centre, while the date is placed below.

The reverse carries “Krishna” in Kannada, followed by the Persian inscription meaning “Struck in Mysore” at the centre. The surrounding legend includes “MEILEE XX CASH” in English and Kannada.

This coin is well suited to collectors of Mysore, Wodeyar, and South Indian princely-state coinage. Its combination of Kannada, Persian, and English inscriptions, along with the Chamundi and Sardula motifs, gives it strong historical and regional character.
