Description

The 2,000,000 Mark Reichsbanknote was issued in 1923, during one of the most severe periods of hyperinflation in German history. As prices rose rapidly and the Mark lost purchasing power, increasingly higher denominations were introduced for everyday transactions. The note was later demonetized in 1925 following Germany’s currency stabilization.

The obverse is printed in black with an ornate purple guilloche pattern near the right margin and purple series lettering. It prominently carries the inscriptions “Reichsbanknote” and “Zwei Millionen Mark,” along with the Reichsbank’s official seals and signatures. The note is printed on a single side, giving it a distinctive appearance.

The reverse is blank, making this a particularly unusual one-sided Reichsbank issue. Its enormous face value and connection to Germany’s 1923 hyperinflation crisis make it a fascinating historical document and a desirable addition to collections focused on Weimar-era currency and economic history.
