Description

The 50 Bolívares banknote was issued in 2018 by the Central Bank of Venezuela as part of the Bolívar Soberano currency reform, introduced to stabilize the country’s monetary system during a period of severe inflation. This series reflects Venezuela’s modern national identity while continuing the tradition of honoring important historical figures from the independence era.

The obverse is vertically oriented and features a portrait of Antonio José de Sucre, a celebrated Venezuelan military leader and close ally of Simón Bolívar. Sucre played a decisive role in the South American wars of independence. The design includes decorative patterns, the national emblem, and the denomination along with official inscriptions of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

The reverse presents a detailed wildlife scene with a spectacled bear, a species native to the Andes region of South America, set against a natural landscape. This theme reflects Venezuela’s rich biodiversity and environmental heritage. With its distinctive vertical format and strong historical symbolism, this banknote is a fascinating addition for collectors of modern Latin American currency.
