Description
This ₹500 banknote was issued by the Reserve Bank of India between 2012 and 2016 as part of the Mahatma Gandhi Series. It marked the introduction of the Indian ₹ symbol on circulating currency and remained widely used until its withdrawal during the 2016 Indian demonetization. In Uncirculated (UNC) condition, the note retains its original paper quality, crisp texture, and fresh appearance.
The obverse features a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi along with the Ashoka Pillar emblem and clear bilingual inscriptions in Devanagari and English. The inclusion of the ₹ symbol before the denomination highlights a key design evolution in Indian currency, beautifully preserved in this UNC example.
On the reverse, the note depicts a vibrant scene of India’s cultural heritage with a group motif (Parliament-related imagery style), symbolizing democratic strength and unity. The fine details and colors remain sharp and well-defined in UNC grade, making it a premium collectible and an excellent addition for modern Indian banknote collectors.
