Description

This AE Drachm of Gondophares belongs to the Indo-Parthian coinage tradition and is dated approximately to the 1st century BCE–1st century CE. The Pathankot type is a small bronze issue, with the illustrated specimen weighing approximately 2.75 grams and measuring around 11 mm in diameter.

The obverse features the diademed head of the king facing right, surrounded by a blundered Greek legend. The portrait reflects the Hellenistic influence characteristic of Indo-Parthian coinage.

The reverse depicts Athena standing right and hurling a thunderbolt. A Kharoshthi legend surrounds the figure, with the inscription associated with the royal titulature of Gondophares.
