Description

Struck between circa 1100–1200 CE, this Gadhaiya Paisa is attributed to the Silaharas of Konkan and belongs to the broader Indo-Sasanian coinage tradition of western India. Minted in billon with an irregular round fabric, the coin weighs approximately 4.24 grams and reflects the evolving regional monetary styles of the medieval period.

The obverse displays a highly stylized Indo-Sasanian bust facing right, derived from earlier Sasanian prototypes but transformed over centuries into a distinctly abstract Indian design.

The reverse depicts a symbolic battle scene with a mounted horseman and accompanying abstract elements, executed in the linear and compact artistic style characteristic of late Gadhaiya issues.

Gadhaiya Paisa coins are widely collected for their unique evolution from classical prototypes into regional medieval forms. This piece is especially appealing for collectors interested in western Indian dynasties, Indo-Sasanian coinage, and abstract medieval art styles.
