Description

Struck between 1928 and 1936, this Half Penny circulated throughout the United Kingdom during the reign of King George V. Composed of bronze and weighing approximately 5.67 grams, the coin features a milled edge and round format, representing the standard bronze coinage of the late interwar period.

The obverse features the uncrowned portrait of King George V facing left, surrounded by the Latin royal legend. This smaller portrait design, engraved by Edgar Bertram Mackennal, became the standard portrait for George V’s later coinage.

The reverse depicts the seated figure of Britannia holding a trident, with a shield bearing the Union flag beside her. The denomination encircles the design, while the date appears in the exergue, creating one of the most enduring and recognizable motifs in British numismatics.

This Half Penny is a popular choice for collectors of British and Commonwealth coinage. Its elegant portrait, iconic Britannia reverse, and connection to the reign of George V make it an essential addition to any historical coin collection.
