Description

Struck during the reign of Siddhraj Jayasimha between circa 1094–1144 CE, this silver Hasti Dramma belongs to the celebrated coinage of the Chaulukyas of Gujarat. Minted in a small hammered fabric and weighing approximately 0.45 grams, the coin reflects the compact and artistically symbolic monetary style of medieval western India.

The obverse depicts an elephant walking to the right with an elongated trunk touching the ground, rendered in a stylized yet expressive form that gives the series its popular “Hasti” designation.

The reverse carries an early Nagari legend in Devanagari script, commonly interpreted as “jaya si / piya,” arranged in a compact geometric layout characteristic of Chaulukya coinage.

Hasti Drammas are highly collected for their elegant miniature fabric, distinctive elephant imagery, and historical association with one of Gujarat’s most influential medieval rulers. An excellent addition for collectors of Indian hammered silver and regional dynastic coinage.
