Issued around 200 BC during the Post-Mauryan period, this copper unit is attributed to the ancient city-state of Kaushambi, an important political and trade center of early historic India. Struck in copper using primitive casting and hammering techniques, the coin features the distinctive “damru” or hourglass-shaped format associated with regional issues of the era.

The obverse generally displays clusters of raised pellets and curved linear motifs, applied in a stylized and symbolic manner. Due to the manual minting process, each specimen carries slight variations in strike, shape, and surface texture.

The reverse is typically plain or bears simplified punch-like impressions and abstract forms, consistent with early Indian monetary traditions where symbolic identity was often prioritized over detailed inscriptions.
