Issued by the Nayaks of Shivaganga during the 16th–17th century, this copper unit belongs to the coinage of the Nayak rulers who governed parts of South India following the decline of the Vijayanagara Empire. Struck in hammered copper, these coins are well known for their devotional motifs and regional iconography.
