These machine-struck brass tokens, commonly referred to as “Puveera” tokens, are believed to have circulated in Central Tamil Nadu during the late 19th to early 20th century under British India. Often associated with local trade or temple-based economies, they were used informally alongside official coinage when small change was scarce. Typically compact in size (around 9–14 mm) and weighing approximately 3 grams, they reflect localized minting practices.

The obverse generally features concentric linear and pellet circles, sometimes accompanied by Tamil characters such as “Pu ve ra” or variations thereof, arranged in a stylized and compact format.

The reverse commonly displays concentric circles with additional elements like star patterns or geometric motifs, maintaining symmetry and a distinct visual identity.

These tokens are valued for their regional significance and connection to everyday commerce outside formal monetary systems. They appeal to collectors interested in exonumia, temple tokens, and the diverse monetary landscape of colonial India.
