Description

Struck during the reign of Tipu Sultan (1750–1799 AD), this copper ¼ Paisa represents the dynamic coinage of the Mysore Kingdom during one of its most historically significant periods. Hammered on a compact flan and weighing approximately 2.9 grams, the coin reflects the practical circulation issues of late 18th-century South India.

The obverse features an elephant standing to the right, accompanied by Persian letter “Te” above. The elephant motif symbolizes power, royal authority, and military strength, making it one of the most recognizable designs of Tipu Sultan’s coinage.

The reverse carries elegant Persian inscriptions with the ruler’s titulature and regnal references enclosed within a dotted border, maintaining the strong Islamic calligraphic style seen across Mysorean issues of the period.

This type remains highly desirable among collectors of Tipu Sultan, Mysore, and South Indian dynastic coinage for its historical importance, distinctive iconography, and direct connection to one of India’s most iconic rulers.
