Description

Issued during the reign of Ajayaraja Chauhan (1110–1125 CE), this silver 1 Stater belongs to the medieval coinage of the Chauhan Dynasty. Struck using the traditional hammered technique, it weighs approximately 3.9 grams and measures around 15 mm in diameter. This example is in high-grade condition, with strong overall detail and particularly clear preservation of the reverse legend.

The obverse depicts Goddess Lakshmi seated facing forward, rendered in the characteristic stylized artistic manner of early medieval North Indian coinage. The well-defined central figure and surrounding details remain clearly visible.

The reverse carries the Nagari legend “SRI AJAYA DEVA”, identifying the ruler. On this high-grade example, the legend is notably clear and legible, making the attribution especially easy to appreciate.

An important issue from the medieval Chauhan Dynasty, this silver Stater is an excellent choice for collectors of early Indian and Rajput coinage.
