Kushan Empire Huvishka Tetradrachm

Description

Issued during the reign of Huvishka, approximately 158–195 CE, this copper Tetradrachm belongs to the Kushan Empire’s extensive monetary tradition. The illustrated type weighs approximately 14.5 grams and measures around 25 mm in diameter, with a thick, irregular round flan produced by hammering.

The obverse features the characteristic Kushan imperial design associated with Huvishka, with the ruler represented in a dynamic pose and surrounded by elements of the Kushan royal imagery. The hand-struck fabric gives the portrait and surrounding details a distinctive ancient appearance.

The reverse depicts a Kushan deity figure with accompanying symbolic elements and inscriptional details. Such religious imagery reflects the diverse pantheon represented on Kushan coinage during Huvishka’s reign.
