Description

Struck during the reign of Firuz Shah Tughluq (1351–1388 AD), this ½ Tanka belongs to the Delhi Sultanate and was issued from Hadrat Dehli mint. Composed of billon and produced using hammered minting technique, the coin weighs approximately 3.6 grams and displays the irregular round flan typical of medieval Islamic coinage.

The obverse carries Arabic inscriptions naming Firuz Shah Sultan along with the mint reference “Zarabat bi-Hadrat Dehli,” indicating its official striking at the royal Delhi mint. The bold calligraphy dominates the compact surface and reflects the strong stylistic identity of Tughluq coinage.

The reverse contains religious and caliphal inscriptions, including references to the Caliph and Islamic legitimacy, a common feature of Sultanate coinage that reinforced sovereign authority and political legitimacy.

This type remains highly collectible among medieval Indian coin collectors for its historical significance, distinctive calligraphic style, and direct connection to one of the most stable and administratively significant reigns of the Delhi Sultanate.
